- Most visitors choose to explore some of Somerset's rich history on their holiday cottage break, and the tale of King Arthur is probably the most popular. Cadbury Castle, located 5 miles from Yeovil, is the alleged site of Camelot: Arthur's very own holiday cottage in Somerset. Although there is little left of the castle itself, the majestic surrounding views more than make up for it. But if you're after a little more solid evidence of Arthurian legends, then a visit to Glastonbury Abbey is a must. Along with being the supposed burial place of Arthur, the remains of the abbey are set within 36 acres of tranquil parkland, so even if you don't find evidence of the legend, you should still find relaxation.
- The Holy Grail is said by some to reside within the Chalice Well at the foot of Glastonbury Tor, a majestic conical hill. And while visitors to the well can explore the beautiful gardens to their hearts' content, sampling the mystical water from the well is not recommended. However, many visitors on a holiday cottage break to Somerset may prefer to sample the region's other mystical beverage. The Sheppy family have been producing cider for over 200 years, and as well as sampling their wares, visitors to their farm in Taunton can walk through the grounds, get a tour of the brewery, look at a variety of livestock learn more at the museum.
- But there are more active ways to explore Somerset's culinary history on a holiday cottage break. With its steep inclines, dramatic peaks and amazing views, Cheddar Gorge makes an ideal location for walkers, climbers, cavers and sightseers.
