South East England secrets to whet your appetite

  • As the UK's capital, a lot of the focus on holidays in Essex, London and the Home Counties goes on London itself. A leading global city with a 24-hour ambience and a whole host of attractions, a holiday home in London is a must for those after a lively cosmopolitan break. If you're after culture then we'd suggest taking in a show in the West End. Lovers of both art and architecture will be equally satiated with a visit to the stunning Tate Modern on the South Bank of the Thames. If you're after more historic attractions then we'd suggest a visit to the Tower of London to admire the Crown Jewels followed by a stroll past Buckingham Palace to see if you can make a guard laugh.
  • In part seperated from London by a metropolitan green belt, a holiday cottage in Essex presents a more rural proposition for the UK holidaymaker. Epping Forest acts a border and also offers a range of active pursuits, including rambling, cycling and horse riding. Saffron Walden is a delightful market town offering many historic buildings. Make sure you visit Audley End House and Gardens for a tour of the Jacobean house and beautiful gardens. But if you fancy something a little wilder then a visit to Colchester Zoo is a must. With over 260 species spread out over 60 acres of parkland, and over 50 displays every day, there's plenty to keep your own little monkeys occupied.
  • When in Buckinghamshire we'd recommend a visit to Bekonscot Model Village for a uniquely English experience. Similarly, Bletchley Park is a great place to learn about a key moment in English, if not the world's, history. Windsor Castle is probably the most celebrated attraction in Berkshire and a well worth a visit if you're staying at your very own holiday retreat in the region. While you're in Windsor, we'd also recommend a boat trip down the Thames. Equally splendid, Kew Gardens in Surrey is particularly beautiful in the spring. Hampton Court Palace is equally striking and definitely an all weather attraction.
