Warwickshire secrets to whet your appetite

  • Warwickshire is an area rich in history and culture. Visit the Bard's birthplace in Stratford Upon Avon and see his legacy performed at the RSC. Warwickshire's more notorious history is recorded at Coughton Court, which offers a magnificent stately home with 25 acres of lush gardens but is also popular with visitors thanks to its former residents' part in the notorious gunpowder plot of 1605.
  • Shakespeare himself was no stranger to notoriety, or at least his father wasn't, spending years buying and selling wool illegally throughout Warwickshire. Perhaps unsurprisingly, this isn't celebrated in the region but provides you with a good reason (in case you need one!) to trek across the beautiful unspoiled landscape. You're bound to find a few scenic treasures on your way. However, more tangible treasures are to be found at Compton Verney, a fantastic gallery housed in a Grade I listed mansion near Stratford.
  • As a county with no cities, you won't have far to travel from your holiday cottage in Warwickshire to find delightful peace and quiet. Move away from the land and you'll find an equally welcome experience on the region's waterways. Take a trip down the Grand Union Canal for one of the more tranquil ways to explore Warwickshire's industrial heritage, or take a leisurely river ride from Stratford Upon Avon.
